ALWAG’s Group members pursue two main purposes including:

  1. Development and dissemination of professional guidelines, policies and standards for practice and
  2. Influencing community and  government participation in active living and wellness promotion.

To promote research in active living and wellness, education and training using best practice interventions.

To BUILD and GROW a community of active living and wellness.


  1. Education: Include training of fitness practitioners, continuing professional development for education, sports and health sector practitioners through conferences, seminars and workshops. Offer consulting services in such areas as designing facilities and equipment, evaluation of physical education teacher education programs, coaching education and many other exercise is medicine and healthy lifestyle initiatives.
  2. Research Publication: ALWREC and interested sectors conduct research on a variety of topics in physical activity science and public health. GPEStt publishes The Ghana Physical Education and Sport Journal (GPESJ) once a year and covers numerous areas in physical activity sciences, public health and active healthy life.
  3. Advocacy:  Family members pursue purpose-driven advocacy to stimulate the movement to empower children and youth to move. Honors excellence through induction of distinguished personalities into the Physical Activity Hall of Fame.
